Dessin/Drawing from Observation
I studied life drawing and painting at California State University, Long Beach from 2006-2008, which allowed me to study with the great figurative painting faculty Professors Domenic Cretara and Yu Ji. My goal was to learn how to draw and paint from observation, as well as to learn how to teach both drawing and painting. Drawing is the basis for all of my artwork and I approach it from several directions, both long and short drawings, examples of which are shown throughout this page.
When teaching, I emphasize line as a way to establish form in drawings. In terms of subject matter, I have students work from still life, then a larger space, such as a room interior, then eventually to portraiture and the figure.
